The Euro!

Our currency in the European Union is called the euro.

One side of the coin is the same for all countries, but the other side is different for each.

Have you seen coins from other countries? Can you identify which country these coins are from?

If you have a euro coin from another country, bring it to class. I will take a picture of it and we can make a virtual collection!

This website will help you discover which country your coin is from!

Social Science Test Unit 4

You will have one more Social Science test before the break-- Unit 4.  It will be Wednesday, 5th April.

You will have to write the definitions of the vocabulary (inlet, peninsula, gulf, cape, island, fjord, ría).

You must know the boundaries of Europe (seas, oceans, mountains, continent).

You must describe the topography of inland Europe (it is relatively simple!)  and of the European coastline (two parts).

Where are the plains?  What are Massifs? Where are they located?   What are plateaus? Where are the highest mountain ranges? Give some examples.  And the smaller mountains?

Label the map:

The maps about the coasts have a lot of information that you don't need to memorise, but you can use the  "Mirar" feature (instead of "Jugar") to practice!

After Semana Santa we will start to learn the countries of Europe (political map!)

Here is a presentation about Physical Geography of Europe. It includes rivers and climate (which we will learn about later!)

Celebrating the peseta

On October 19th, 1868, the peseta was born!  Here is a note from the Museo Arqueológico Nacional (remember-- we went there last year!):

Nos ponemos nostálgicos... ¿recuerdas la peseta? #TalDíaComoHoy en 1868, nace como unidad monetaria española. Permanecería vigente 134 años, hasta la entrada del euro en 2002. Os mostramos una peseta de plata emitida por el Gobierno Provisional en 1869 http://goo.gl/9q3Yz7 En el anverso aparece la nación española personificada en una mujer vestida a la romana, inspirada en la representación de Hispania de las monedas del siglo II.

Remember that in 1868, Isabella II abdicated the throne. There was a  "provisional government" that was in effect while they looked for a new king. Can you remember who they chose?????
